Myrtle Beach gets merry

Our staff picks for the best holiday activities in Myrtle Beach

Updated November 5, 2021

Sparkling lights, drive-through holiday events, tree lighting shows, and even a real ice skating rink—believe it or not, Myrtle Beach transforms into an absolute winter wonderland.

The 2021 holiday season starts early, and we don’t want you to miss a thing. Check out these local recommendations, courtesy of George and Riley from our Customer Experience team, so you’re ready to enjoy the merriest time of the year in Myrtle Beach.

1. See the tree lighting at Barefoot Landing

Kick-off the holiday season at Barefoot Landing with fireworks, family-friendly activities, and the annual lighting of a 22-foot tree.

This free event will take place on November 20 in Dockside Village and feature holiday activities starting at 2 p.m. Don’t miss the tree lighting show at 6 p.m., and wait until the end for an early visit from Santa.

2. Drive through the Great Christmas Light Show

Get in the car with the whole family for a full Christmas light experience. Drive along 2 miles of the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex to be surrounded by hundreds of magical displays and dancing lights that come to life in sync with the music on your radio.

After this unique drive, walk to Santa’s Village. Visit the free petting zoo and get your camera ready for your visit to Santa.

“This is one of the most entertaining, family-friendly activities in the area. You truly get involved in the holiday spirit.” —Riley, Customer Experience

The Great Christmas Light Show starts November 22 and runs through December 30. View the schedule and details >

3. Immerse yourself in Winter Wonderland at The Beach

From November 26 until January 2, downtown Myrtle Beach transforms into the biggest holiday dreamland in town.

Walk along Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place while surrounded by holiday music and sparkling decorations. Visit the different themed areas for some beautiful pictures with your loved ones.

If you’re feeling especially wintry, strap on a pair of ice skates and glide on the festival’s real ice rink. Finish your dreamy Winter Wonderland journey at Riley Park, where live holiday entertainment will put the cherry on top.

4. ’Tis the season with a “boatiful” regatta

One of the most local recommendations from George on our Customer Experience team is the Intracoastal Christmas Regatta.

This holiday tradition on the water always takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving (this year it’s November 27).

“Following the splendidly decorated maritime units along the Intercoastal Waterway is one of my favorite ways to kick off the season.” —George, Customer Experience

Yachts and boats get decorated for a parade of holiday lights. The parade begins at 5 p.m. at the Little River Inlet and finishes at Dock Holidays—and there are plenty of spots to watch the spectacle.

5. Celebrate the holidays with a Christmas show

Taking place every holiday season, the Christmas shows in Myrtle Beach are already a classic. Music, dance, magic tricks, and holiday spirit are the perfect ingredients for a holiday spectacle that the whole family will enjoy.

Get your tickets for an evening at the Carolina Opry or Alabama Theater, or mix things up with the combination dinner & Christmas shows offered at Medieval Times and Pirates Voyage

6. Ring in the new year in Myrtle Beach

The festivities in Myrtle Beach continue as we welcome a new year. If you’re visiting with the family and are looking for kid-friendly events, Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Margaritaville at Broadway at the Beach both offer family-friendly celebrations with live music, fireworks, and an early New Year’s toast at 10 p.m.

If you prefer to say farewell to 2021 right at midnight, don’t miss the annual Southern Times Square event at The Market Common, featuring live music, a mirror ball drop, and fireworks to greet 2022.

7. Celebrate the holidays, oceanfront style

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than staying right on the beach. Make the most of our fully equipped suites and amenities, and save 30% with our Winter Warm-Up deal.
